Dear Friend,
I hope this letter finds you well. Your support during the campaign, as well as the input you have provided me since I joined Congress, has meant a great deal. Thank you for your commitment to making Western North Carolina a stronger and better place to live.
The 110th Congress has already taken strong steps toward putting America back on track. We have restored accountability in Washington by enacting an ethics reform package that outlaws gifts and travel from lobbyists to legislators and are returning to a responsible pay-as-you-go budget policy to help balance the budget. We’ve also cut subsidies to Big Oil and invested those resources in sustainable energy technologies; reduced prescription drugs prices for seniors on Medicare Part D; and cut the interest rates on student loans to help more high school students continue their education in college or technical school.
Although we just won this seat, we must focus on keeping it to continue the good work we’ve started. Recently, our campaign was selected as a Frontline Race by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Being a Frontline Race is an indicator that the next election cycle may be extremely difficult, requiring greater resources and support.
The best way to combat the challenge ahead is to start fundraising as early as possible. PLEASE help us jumpstart the campaign and make a contribution of $500, $250, $100 or whatever you can spare today. The National Republican Congressional Committee is going to fight hard to re-take the seats they just lost, and regain the majority. We need your help to be competitive. We need to defend this seat and continue to restore integrity to Washington.
